Nick Carpenter, J.D., is an Associate Attorney with Elville and Associates, P.C., where he practices in the areas of estate planning, estate and trust administration, and beneficiary representation. He works with individuals and families both in planning for the future and in navigating the legal and administrative responsibilities that follow the death of a loved one.
Before joining Elville and Associates, Nick's work focused on public service, healthcare access, and disability rights. As a Fellow with the Maryland Department of Legislative Services in the Maryland General Assembly, he worked on initiatives involving Maryland's healthcare system and issues affecting communities throughout the state.
Earlier, Nick worked with the Maryland Department of Health, where he supported the Community Health Resources Commission and its efforts to expand access to affordable healthcare, particularly for populations affected by chronic disease and behavioral health challenges.
Nick's interest in becoming an attorney grew out of his desire to work directly with people and make a practical difference in their lives. That is especially important to him in his estate administration work. As Nick explains:
I chose the legal profession because I felt the need to become someone who can be directly helpful to people. At Elville and Associates, one of my primary roles is to legally process your loved one's estate so you can have space to emotionally process their passing. Taking that weight off a family's shoulders can really make a difference during a challenging time in their lives.
Nick earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law and his Bachelor of Arts, summa cum laude, from Marist College. While in law school, he worked in the Civil Rights for Persons with Disabilities Clinic, helping individuals facing disability discrimination connect with legal services. He received the 2022 CALI Award for his work in client management, advocacy, and teamwork.
Nick is a member of the Maryland State Bar Association and the Grand Lodge of A.F. & A.M. of Connecticut.
At Elville and Associates, Nick takes the time to understand what clients and families are facing, answer their questions, and help them through the legal process one step at a time. Whether he is helping someone put an estate plan in place or guiding a family through the administration of an estate, his goal is to make the process understandable and manageable.
